Research Interests: Violent crimes, Criminal Justice, Anti-corruption, Social change and Social problems.

Professor Igbo attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1975 to 1979 where he graduated with first class (Honours) Degree in Sociology & Anthropology. He was the best graduating student in the department of Sociology & Anthropology, and the Faculty of the Social Sciences in 1979. Consequently, he was invited to join the academic staff of the Department as a Graduate Assistant and later obtained a Masters (MSc) Degree in the same department in 1983. He later travelled to the United Kingdom on Commonwealth Scholarship at the University of Sheffield where he obtained another Masters(M.A.) Degree in Third World Studies from the Department of Sociological Studies, and the Doctoral(PhD) Degree (1990)in Criminology, from the Centre for Criminological and Socio-Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, University of Sheffield. He has published widely in many national and international journals and was promoted to Professor in 2000. He is a Foundation member, Nigerian Society of criminology (NSC).
