Prof. Abdullahi was born in 1958 at Kazaure, Nigeria. Educated at Bayero University Kano (BUK) B.Sc. (Sociology, 1981), M.Sc. (Sociology, 1984) Ph.D. (Sociology, with specialization in Criminology, 1997). Employed as Graduate Assistant in July 1982 by BUK and promoted to the rank of Professor of Criminology in October, 2006. He was a Research Fellow at the School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London (1994) and Visiting Scholar, Cleveland State University, USA (2005), He was former Head, BUK Security, former Head, Department of Sociology, BUK. He established the first Criminology and security studies programme in Nigerian (conventional) university at Federal University Dutse, where he (at different times) served as Head, Department of Sociology, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services).

Prof. Abdullahi’s areas of teaching and research interests are criminology, security studies, social problems, social policy and development. He has 35 years experience of teaching and research at university level and published at length in books of readings, local and international journals. He has from 1982 to date participated in numerous local and international projects and conferences. Prof Abdullahi was on the Editorial Boards of Ilorin Journal of Sociology, Maiduguri Journal of Arts and Humanities, Lapai Sociological Review, Journal of Criminological Society of Nigeria, Zaria Sociological Journal, Kano Studies. He established Dutse Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dutse Journal of Criminology and Security Studies. He has supervised many undergraduate and Post-Graduates students (PhD, M.Sc, etc);

Prof. Abdullahi was Special Adviser to the Chief of General Staff and Vice-Chairman Provisional Ruling Military Council, Federal Republic of Nigeria (the late, Admiral Mike Okhai Akhigbe, of sanctified memory), has served on various national and international committees and boards. He is patron/ member of different professional and occupational associations in and outside Nigeria.
