Preamble:

This year 2020 is of historical significance because Nigeria as a nation intents to mark her 60 years of political independence and 21 years of patchy democracy by 1st October, 2020. The problem of threats to Nigeria internal security has posted a significant challenge to intelligence gathering and management in the country. The importance of intelligence knowledge and its application to National Security has been under scrutiny because recent observable evidence shows there are intelligence failures.

This Conference is necessitated by a number of contending issues with regards to lack of real time intelligence. It is to access the use of intelligence and lack of analytical skills associated with intelligence gathering and management. Quantitative and qualitative data will be utilize along with primary and secondary sources meant to meets the current objectives of the National policy in order to arrive at a meaningful decision making with useful conclusion and recommendations.

A close look at current situation in the country has revealed that intelligence gathering and management has not been effectively highlighted and implemented to support the conduct of security operations in Nigeria. This is because the impact of intelligence studies for now has not been significantly utilized for a number of reasons. Funding and promotion of interest of intelligence sources are part of the reasons. Furthermore, it is clear that current intelligence units within the country lack the requisite technological platform to effectively apply and support tactical and strategic intelligence.

The Conference intents to identify a number of challenges with reference to strategic intelligence gathering and management enterprise in Nigeria, it is believed that the study will address real time intelligence; provide the needed analytical skills; acquire the necessary ICT facilities with adequate funding to effectively boast intelligence operations in the country. Nigeria as a nation definitely requires intelligence knowledge within her immediate environment and that of other neighboring nations, strategic intelligence operation in Nigeria is necessary because, in order to preserve her territorial integrity and National security the nation needs to keep a meaningful track record of her internal and external threats.

This is the reason why every National government worldwide usually invests huge resources to ensure that adequate intelligence operations are secured. In recent years Nigeria has witnessed several Security threats such as coronavirus pandemic, terrorist attacks, militancy, assassinations, kidnappings, rape, robbery and other form of criminalities that have almost destabilized national development, goals and security in the country.

This conference would therefore assist as a mile stone and a coordinated effort by Criminologists and security experts to showcase the need and importance of promoting the study of centralized intelligence system in relation to National security in the country.

The 4th National Conference of National Association of Criminologists and Security Practitioners of Nigeria (NACSP) will provide a unique opportunity to bring together stakeholders from Government, Security industries, Criminologists and Security Practitioners, academia, multilateral agencies, international organizations, Students, youths and civil society groups to share and broaden their knowledge and experiences towards intelligence gathering and management in order to achieve useful policies that could assist to safeguard life and property in contemporary society. It is believed that actionable initiatives and pertinent solutions will be developed through collaborative dialogue, keynotes, presentations and demonstrations during the Conference.
